CSL's Shamrock, Lansdowne aid with hurricane relief effort
The Cosmopolitan Soccer League’s Irish clubs are lending a helping hand and more to the Hurricane Sandy relief effort.
More than 30 volunteers from Yonkers-based Lansdowne are this Saturday headed to Breezy Point, which lost dozens of homes to a fire caused by the storm. In Sunnyside, Queens, Shamrock are organizing a drive for blankets, clothing, non-perishable food and money for displaced victims of Sandy.
Donations can dropped at the Courtyard Bar, 40-18 Queens Blvd., Sunnyside, N.Y. 11104. For more information, call Shamrock club president Kevin McPartland at (917) 583-1575.
Meanwhile, at 7:30 a.m., Saturday, a bus carrying Lansdowne members, among them masons, painters, carpenters and other contractors, will leave the Aisling Irish Center at 990 McLean Ave., Yonkers, headed for Breezy Point in the Rockaways.
They will hand out food, clothes and help repair buildings, said club official Aiden Corr. “Bring gloves, boots, shovels, spades and cleaning agents,” he added. For more details or to volunteer, please call Paul Doherty at (646) 372-0988 or the Aisling Irish Center at (914) 237-5121.
