Ten-man Sporting Astoria ended a string of poor performances with a 3-1 win over Dynamo in a Metro Division One fixture in Cosmopolitan Soccer League action at Bushwick Inlet last Sunday.
Michael George, a New York University graduate student, volleyed home from a corner and after Dynamo had leveled, saw his rebound slammed home by Diego Julio Dominguez who made it, 2-1. Damian Paz added a third from Jorge Caceres’ through ball.
“The way we played it didn't seem like we were down a man for 45 minutes,” general Ed Romero said.
BAD GAMBLE
Elsewhere in Metro Division One, Homenetmen trailed Central Park Rangers Reds by the odd goal with 15 minutes to go when they decided to go for broke. They lost 4-1 with George Felice [50th minute] the lone scorer.
“The score doesn't reflect the game,” Garo Anastasian said. “We were down 2-1 the last 15 min and my coach told the players to attack.”
ROWLEY HAT TRICK
Brandon Rowley [three goals] and Remo Enea tallied for Barnstonworth Rovers in a 4-2 Metro Division Two victory over FC Partizani.
Pirro Cece had opened the scoring for Partizani whose Besi Ganaj also connected.
SHARP SHOOTER
NYPD FC sharp shooter Izlet Arslanovic was at it again, with a brace this time, in the Cops’ 3-3 tie with undefeated Metro Division Two leaders Grenadier Zenith on Randalls Island.
George Abbott was the other NYPD marksman.
KICKER DERBY
Former Red Bull Seth Stammler struck twice to help Manhattan Kickers Premier in a 6-3 romp over sister club Kickers Over-30.
Luka Jagodziniski [two], David James and Gilad Bloom also got on the score sheet for Premier, while Paul Cowler had a goal and assist for the Over-30s.
The win restored Premier [6-1-1, 19] atop the Over-30 East log, three points ahead of New York Dinamo, with Kickers Over-30 now third on 14-points.
MASSIVE WIN
Andy Abramovitz [eighth and 82nd minutes] and Tim Hattori [65th minute] gave Barnstonworth Rovers’ Over-30 relegation battle a boost with a 3-1 result at Tesoro’s expense.
“A massive win for us,” Michael Alexander said.
MARK & RO
Jersey City Eagles’ Mark Shkreli and Roland Dembar each had a brace in a 4-0 drubbing of Central Park Rangers.
BHOYS CRUISE
Manhattan Celtic Bhoys’ Pedro Borges – assisted by Jaime Gonzalez [30th minute] – and Kapil Handa [70th-minute penalty] saw off SC Gjoa, 2-0, in another Over-30 fixture.
