April 18, 2014 THE ALBERTSON CONNECTION
Four former Fury players are on the Thorns
In what could be a record, four players from the same youth soccer club plays for a National Women's Soccer League team. Midfielder Allie Long, defenders Emily Menges and Rebecca Moros and goalkeeper Michelle Betos once starred for the Albertson Soccer Club in the Long Island Junior Soccer League. They now perform forthe Portland Thorns, who visit Sky Blue FC in the latter's home opener at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, N.J. at 7 p.m. Saturday.
The Portland Thorns FC coach has been mentioned in some circles as a possible successor for the fired Tom Sermanni as U.S. women's national coach, but he said that he has more than enough on his plate with the defending NWSL champions.
