It certainly looks like Thomas Rongen has been named chief scout of the U.S. national team. The announcement has not been made by U.S. Soccer yet, although fans have offered congratulations to the 60-year-old on social media and Rongen has acknowledged them.

No one saw it coming. If they did, they were probably a liar or a time traveler from the future. Only weeks after the Cosmos secured their second North American Soccer League title in a row and third in four years, they ceased operations.
