Montclair, N.J. -- This probably will be Lider Marmol's last week with the team, according to Red Bulls coach Juan Carlos Osorio.
The Paraguayan midfielder was claimed as a discovery player by the Chicago Fire a day prior to the Red Bulls' claim in December.
The Red Bulls have tried to make a deal with the Fire, but so far, nothing. They reportedly offered $100,000 for Marmol, but were turned down.
"We're giving ourselves a final week," Osorio said after practice at Montclair State Tuesday. "If we can get the deal done, great. If not we have to move on."
When he was Fire coach last season, Osorio brought Marmol into practice with the club, but a deal could not be reached.
When Osorio left Chicago for the Red Bulls, the Fire put in a discovery claim Dec. 10. Osorio was not yet named Red Bulls coach.
Though he was claimed by the Fire, Marmol has trained with the Red Bulls for the last month. He even has his name taped to a locker at Giants Stadium.
Whether that becomes a permanent fixture, it remains to be seen.
