Scottish defender Chris Innes is gone and the Red Bulls will put in an offer for Red Bull Salzburg for midfielder Ernst Obster.

Red Bulls coach Juan Carlos Osorio said Monday that the MLS club and Innes are going their separate ways.

Innes, a left fullback from Gretna in the Scottish Premier League, has been on trial with the Red Bulls since last Tuesday.

"We can see he is a good header of the ball and a good organizer," he said.

But the team will be going in a different direction.

"We will be looking for a specific type of defender," Osorio said.

Osorio said he spoke with Innes earlier Monday.

"He said he will pursue other options and go back to Scotland," he said.

Obster impressed Osorio during the Red Bulls pre-season camp in Salzburg, Austria last month. Osorio said the Red Bulls and sporting director Jeff Agoos hadn't heard from Austria and is hopeful of a response soon.

"Will they follow up and do it? I don't know," he said.

The first MLS transfer window will close Tuesday.

Osorio added that the team will bring in a new player into camp Tuesday.

If that doesn't work out, he will go to an alternate plan and bring in a central defender when the second transfer window opens July 15.

"If not, we will put all of the money toward one player," he said.

The candidates for that position play in Europe and South America.
