COLORADO BOUND United agrees to deal Petke to Rapids
D.C. United and former MetroStars defender Mike Petke is heading off to the Colorado Rapids.
United reached an agreement in principle to deal the Bohemia, L.I. native to the Rapids, according to Monday's Washington Post.
The trade is a complicated deal involving a third MLS club, the Post reported.
United would receive a partial allocation, which the club could use toward acquiring a foreign player, the Post said. The club has been pursuing an unspecified Argentine defender who wouldn't be available until later in the summer because of contractual obligations in South America.
Petke, 29, is in his eighth MLS season and third with United (3-3-2). He started 48 matches the previous two years and was in the lineup for the first seven games this year. Apparently as a condition for the trade, Petke was held out of United's 3-2 home win over the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday night.
