The New York Cosmos are expected to announce on Thursday that former Red Bulls managing director Erik Stover will be named the Chief Operating Officer of the team, according to reliable sources.
Stover was hired as Red Bulls vice president, operations on March 1, 2008 and was promoted to managing director that May.
He was replaced in that role in June 2011.
Stover's primary role was being in charge of the construction of Red Bull Arena, which opened in 2010.
The Cosmos will play as an expansion team in the North American Soccer League next year. They will play at Hofstra University in Hempstead, L.I.
