EL TRI AT METLIFE Mexico vs. Ivory Coast on Aug. 14
Mexico will face Ivory Coast at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 8:30 p.m. ET as part of the Mexican National Team U.S. Tour.
The match will be the first game ever between the two countries at the senior level. Both national teams are expected to field their top squads, as the match will be played on an international FIFA date.
The game will serve as a key tune-up for two September CONCACAF World Cup qualifying round matches against Honduras on Sept. 6, and the United States on Sept. 10.
Ivory Coast, under the direction of former French international Sabri Lamouchi, currently ranks 12th in the FIFA world ranking, first among African nations, and leads the African World Cup qualifying with three games remaining in the second round. Ivory Coast has been one of the most dominant African teams in the last decade, having qualified to the last two World Cups. The team is powered by top international stars Didier Drogba (Galatasaray), Salomon Kalou (Lille), Gervinho (Arsenal) as well as midfielder Yaya Toure (Manchester City).
The match will be the fourth of Mexico’s annual five-game U.S. tour, now in its 11th year. The remaining stop of the 2013 Mexican National Team U.S. Tour will be announced at a later date.
