NO ARENA FUTBOL Stadium will be called Red Bull Park, not Arena
A quick and update correction on the name of the soccer-specific stadium that will be built in Harrison, N.J.: You can call it Red Bull Park, not Red Bull Arena.
Maureen Morgan of AEG Metro Development Sales told BigAppleSoccer.com about the official name on Tuesday afternoon. Morgan is the assistant to Nick Sakiewicz, the former MetroStars president and general manager who is currently the president of Anschutz Entertainment Group Soccer for New York/New Jersey.
No reason was given for the name change.
The stadium was referred to as Red Bull Arena in today's story on the Aug. 15 construction start date.
A press release released by the MLS club last Thursday quoted Red Bull CEO Dietrich Mateschitz:
"Our goal is to further strengthen the team and position the New York Red Bulls as the soccer metropolis of the East Coast, as well as to join the investment for a new tailor made soccer stadium - the 'Red Bull Arena' - which will serve as the new home for the New York Red Bulls."
Obviously, things have changed since Mateschitz's statement.
