Red Bulls midfielder Markus Schopp has been sidelined indefinitely with a sports hernia, the team announced Monday.

That means the former Austrian National Team player won't play in Sunday's 3 p.m home opener vs. FC Dallas at Giants Stadium.

It was not known how long Schopp will be out of action and how severe the injury was. It also was not known whether he will visit Munich, Germany for surgery. Several members of the Red Bulls and MetroStars have visited hernia and groin specialists in the past.

Schopp did not play in the season-opening scoreless tie at the Columbus Crew Saturday.

In late February, Schopp was sidelined for several weeks with a groin/hip flexor strain.

Team captain Claudio Reyna, who suffered a charley horse on his left thigh, was not listed on Monday's injury report. His injury was officially listed as a left leg contusion.

Reyna collided with teammate and rookie Dane Richards in the penalty area in the 22nd minute, causing some great concern among Red Bulls fans and observers. He got up and played the rest of the match.

Instead of taking an attacking role as he did while the Red Bulls had the better chances in the first half, Reyna decided to stay further back and play defense in the second half.

Defender Taylor Graham and midfielders Mike Magee and Blake Camp still were listed as out. Magee is recovering from right knee surgery. Blake has a right ankle strain and Graham has a right hamstring strain.
