INTO THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
Manhattanville men advance after 1-0 win

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Sophomore Daniel Carlryd scored the game-winning goal in the 63rd minute, sending the Manhattanville men one step closer to winning Freedom Conference title Wednesday.

In the semifinal match, the top-seeded Valiants defeated fourth-seeded King’s (Pa.) College, 1-0, Wednesday to advance to Saturday
s championship game. The Valiants will meet defending tournament champions Misericordia University, at 4 p.m. on GoValiants.com Field. Misericordia defeated Wilkes University, 3-2, in extratime in the other semifinal.

This will be the first final appearance for Manhattanville (6-0-1 Freedom, 13-4-1 overall).

Sophomore Keston George set up Carlryd, who fired a shot into the empty net for his fifth goal of the season.

Manhattanville dominated, taking 29 shots and forcing goalkeeper Andrew O’Shura to make nine saves.

Valiants junior goalkeeper Jason Torres (Harrison, N.Y.) stopped all six shots he faced to earn his 11th shutout of the season. Torres is tied with A.J. Kretschmer (’04) for the most shutouts in a season at Manhattanville.

King’s did not make it easy for Torres as he was forced to stop leading scorer Joe Bender twice in a span of 30 seconds in the first half.

Manhattanville play Misericordia on GoValiants.com Field at 4 p.m. Saturday. The match will be broadcast live as a video stream on GoValiants.TV.
