FALCONS LOOK TO SOAR IN '04
Jersey opens at two-time PDL champs Cape Cod
The Jersey Falcons are looking to improve on last year’s disappointing 3-14-1 record but won’t have an easy go of it out of the gate. The team faces the two-time defending Premier Development League champion Cape Cod Crusaders Saturday before hosting the two-time defending Northeast Division champion Vermont Voltage Sunday at 5 p.m.
Coached by Greg Bajek, who is also the team’s general manager and chief operating officer after being one of its top midfielders the last two seasons, the Falcons are hoping a historic preseason trip to Poland will provide the foundation for a successful year.
The Falcons, a team with strong Polish ties, played Polish first division sides Gornik Leczna, Odra Wodzislaw and Widzew Lodz in March.
“This is why you play soccer,” Bajek said before the trip. “If you want to be the best, why not play the best. This is a great opportunity for our players to fine tune their skills under international friendly conditions and it provides our team management with a proper gage to assess our talent for the upcoming season.
“This tour also gives American players a chance to showcase their talent and could lead to a potential tryout for a Polish team,” he added.
