SOCCER NEWS NET SALUTE
Illinois' Vanessa DiBernardo is Women's Player of the Week
Illinois junior Vanessa DiBernardo has been named the Soccer News Net Women’s College Player of the Week for the week ending October 28.
DiBernardo had a part in all three Illinois goals in their come-from-behind win over Michigan on Saturday. She was also earlier named Chicagoland Soccer News Player of the Week and Big Ten Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
With the Fighting Illini trailing 2-0, DiBernardo cut the deficit in the 62nd minute, when she stole possession from the Wolverines and released a left-footed shot from the top of the 18-yard box that bent over the keeper, off the crossbar and into the net.
The Illini found the equalizer in the 84th minute, when DiBernardo set up Niki Read.
In the 94th minute, DiBernardo netted the game winner on a penalty kick, her team-leading eighth goal of the season.
