A GOLDEN EAGLE OPPORTUNITY
St. Joseph's to play at York in Division III men's opener Saturday


St. Joseph's College will play against York College (Pa.) in the opening round of the NCAA Division III men's soccer tournament as the field of 62 teams were announced on Monday.

The Golden Eagles (13-9), the Skyline Conference champion, will face York (17-2-2), which qualified for the eighth consecutive year, as part of a four-team regional in York, Pa. on Saturday. The winner will meet the victor of the other first-round Saturday match between Rutgers-Camden (16-2-2) and Medaille (17-2) at York on Sunday. Game times are TBA.

St. Joseph's, which calls Patchogue, N.Y home, earned the Skyline's automatic berth to the tournament via their 3-0 win over Mount Saint Mary in the conference's championship game. The Spartans earned an automatic bid courtesy of a Capital Athletic Conference championship win over Mary Washington, 5-0.

Rutgers-Camden defended the New Jersey Athletic Conference title with a 3-0 win over Rowan in the final. Medaille won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference title with a 1-0 victory over Penn State Behrend.

The Golden Eagles are making their third NCAA tournament appearance, having clinched a berth in 2008 and 2009 as Skyline champions. Under the direction of first-year coach Tim Trava, St. Joseph's earned the top-seed in the Skyline Tournament as they posted an 8-1 conference record.

The team is led offensively by senior John Dettori (Bay Shore, N.Y.), ranked in the Division III's top 10 in points and goals. He leads the team in goals (21) and points (50) and was named the Most Outstanding Player in the Skyline tournament. Junior Fabio Alves (Holbrook, N.Y.) is second on the club with 12 goals and 32 points. Brendan O'Brien (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) has a team-high 10 assists.

Seniors Michael Carroll (Patchogue, N.Y.) and Dylan Evans (Bohemia, N.Y.) are the stalwarts on the backline. Senior goalkeeper Chris Muhs (West Babylon, N.Y.) posted a 13-7 record with nine shutouts.
