HITTING THE ROAD
Hofstra, LIU, Rutgers, Stony Brook women to start Division I tourney away
The four area women's soccer teams will hit the road to begin their participation in the NCAA Division I soccer tournament this weekend.
Hofstra University, Long Island University, Rutgers University and Stony Brook University were among the 64 teams in the field as the schedule was released on Monday.
A quick rundown of the the first-round games:
* Hofstra (11-8-2), the Colonial Athletic Association champions, will meet Boston College (10-7-3) at the Newton Soccer Complex in Newton, Mass. The date and times of the game will be announced soon.
* LIU (10-7-3), the Northeast Conference champ, will face No. 3 Penn State (17-3-1) at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
* Rutgers (12-7-1), an at-large selection to the tournament, will take on Colgate (11-5-4), although as of Monday night, date and time of the game had not been determined. Virginia hosts La Salle on the other side of the bracket.
* And Stony Brook (12-6-3), the America East champs participating in its first NCAA soccer tournament, will tussle with Maryland (13-6-2), the fourth-seeded team, at Ludwig Field in College Park, Md. at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
