Duke’s Kim DeCesare

Duke redshirt junior midfielder Kim DeCesare has been named the Big Apple Soccer Women’s College Player of the Week for the week ending November 18.

The Massapequa Park, NY native struck for four goals over two games last week, NCAA tournament victories over 24th-ranked Miami (Ohio) and second-ranked Virginia.

DeCesare totaled back-to-back first half goals to open the match against Miami (Ohio) on Friday as the Blue Devils went on to post a 4-1 victory over the RedHawks in the NCAA Sweet 16. The game-winning goal for DeCesare was her fourth of the season.

DeCesare closed the weekend with another two goals at second-ranked Virginia on Sunday. The 5-11 forward notched the first goal of the match in the ninth minute to put the Blue Devils ahead 1-0. She then added her second goal in the 89th minute to seal the 3-1 victory for Duke and advance the Blue Devils to the NCAA Elite Eight for the fourth time out of the last six years.

The four-goal performance left DeCesare tied with Laura Weinberg for the team scoring lead at 16, making them the highest scoring duo in the nation this season. DeCesare has six career NCAA Tournament goals over the last two years. Her 38 points in 2012 ranks as the fourth-highest single-season point total in school history.
