Top NSCAA honors for Monmouth men again

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Monmouth University men's team was named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America College Team Academic Award Winner for the fourth consecutive year, the organization recently announced.

A total of 732 soccer teams (225 men, 505 women) posted a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher, earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 academic year. The Hawks posted a 3.09 GPA.

“I am very proud of the guys,” Monmouth coach Robert McCourt said. “This is our fourth year in a row being recognized for academic achievement. Not only are the guys winning on the field, but they are also winners in the classroom.”

The Hawks posted an 11-4-4 record this season, including a 6-2-2 mark in Northeast Conference matches and a 6-0-3 record on The Great Lawn.

Four Hawks were named to the All-NEC Teams, including first-team selections and captains Joseph Schmid (Kingston, Pa.) and Alex Blackburn (Natick, Mass).
