Oct. 27, 2004 THREE STRAIGHT Columbia women edge Fairfield, 2-1
After going through a lean period, the Columbia women's soccer team has found its rhythm. For the third consecutive game it regstered a 2-1 win.
The Lions' latest victims was Fairfield, which they defeated in extra time in Manhattan, N.Y.
Shannon Munoz scored the golden goal in the 97th minute.
Emma Judkins started the sequence, playing a ball from midfield to Munoz, who faked past her defender to get in alone on goal. As goalkeeper Elise Dardani rushed out Munoz slotted it home into the bottom right corner.
Columbia (8-6-0) outshot Fairfield, 31-3.
Columbia opened the scoring in the 31st minute as Meghan Hurlbut fired a left footed 35-yard free kick into the top left corner of the net past Dardani.
Fairfield equalized later in the 38th minute against the run of play. Shannon Helm picked up a loose ball 30 yards from the Columbia goal and chipped keeper Erissa Aronson (Woodmere, N.Y.) just under the crossbar.
The Lions will look to extend their three-game winning streak, facing Yale in New Haven on Saturday night.
