A WOW FOR YOW
Columbia frosh is Ivy women's top player
Columbia freshman forward Alexa Yow has been named Ivy League women's soccer player of the week, it was announced on Monday.
The award was Columbia's first Ivy League player of the week since Nora Dooley earned the honor on Oct. 18, 2010 after her two-goal performance against Princeton.
Yow earned her first career start against Brown on Saturday and came through with an impact performance, registering two goals to lead Columbia to a 2-1 win. Yow tallied both goals in the opening half, the first of which came on a left-footed blast from 20 yards at 9:18.
The Connecticut native hit the crossbar with a shot in the 15th minute, but kept pressing and scored her second goal of the match (and of her career) in the 19th minute on a header. Yow concluded the match with five shots, three of which were on goal.
