THANKS, COACH York's Cunningham gets referee sportsmanship award
Nearly 100 intercollegiate soccer officials from the five boroughs of New York City plus the suburbs of Long Island and Westchester officiate in the New York Metro Intercollegiate Soccer Officials Association. Every year, these officials vote on which coaches have displayed the greatest amount of sportsmanship during the college season.
SHOOTOUT CHAMPIONS Staten Island wins CUNYAC women's title
It may not have been the way they would they would have scripted it, but top-seeded College of Staten Island took home the City University of New York Athletic Conference women's championship, by recording a 4-3 win on a penalty kick shootout after playing to a scoreless draw against No. 3 John Jay College at Randall's Isalnd on Saturday.
LIGHTNING STRIKES Lehman men wins 1st CUNYAC title
For the first time in its history, the Lehman College men are headed to the NCAA Division III Tournament and those in the overflow crowd at Randall’s Island rooting for the Lightning will never forget it. In what was an entertaining, nailbiting, physical and thrilling match, the top-seeded Lightning outlasted third-seeded Baruch College, claiming the win in a shootout victory after both teams had played to a 2-2 standoff after 110 minutes of action on Randall's Island on Saturday.
