GOLDEN GOAL
Amadou lifts York over Brooklyn in OT
JAMAICA, N.Y. -- Rachidi Amadou’s golden goal 12 seconds into the second extratime gave the York College men a 2-1 victory over rival Brooklyn College in a City University of New York Athletic Conference game on Saturday afternoon.
York improved to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while Brooklyn fel to 0-5 and 0-2.
Amadou took a pass from Menard Millus a few seconds after the start of the second extratime and rifled a shot into the top-right corner from about 20 yards, giving the Cardinals their first victory of the season. Amadou had been frustrated all game, taking six shots without being able to find the back of the net, until coming through in extratime.
York opened the scoring in the 11th minute, when an Amadou cross was headed in by freshman Philippe Sainvil.
Brooklyn responded in the 30th minute for the equalizer. A handball by a York player gave Steven Favaloro a penalty kick opportunity. Favaloro rifled a low shot to the left corner, just past the outstretched reach of goalkeeper Qudus Kassim.
Kassim stopped 11 shots. Brooklyn keeper Stamatis Boundouris turned away four shots.
The Cardinals will visit Old Westbury on Monday at 4 p.m.
