FDU's McVey, Wells are honored


Fairleigh Dickinson men players Jack McVey and Jason Wells have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s All-North Atlantic third team.

McVey, a junior midfielder from Douglass, Isle of Mann, earned first team All-Northeast Conference honors after leading the team in goals (seven), assists (four), points (18), shots (41), shots on goal (24) and game-winning goals. He also ranked second in the Northeast Conference in goals and third in the conference in points.

McVey also ranked second in points per game (1.12), third in goals per game (0.44) and tied for third in game-winning goals. He also finished in the top-10 in shots, shots per game (2.56), assists and assists per game (0.25). McVey also was named to the NEC all-tournament team after the Knights’ season ended in double overtime in the championship match against Monmouth, 2-1.

Wells, a redshirt junior from Montclair, N.J., came on strong at the end of the season as he helped anchor the defense. He played well in the NEC tournament. Wells, who missed most of the 2010 season with an injury, was named second team All-Northeast Conference as a junior in 2009.
