More honors for Hofstra freshman Galton
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Hofstra freshman Leah Galton was named to the NCAA Division I women's All-South Atlantic Region first team, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced.
Galton made the team as a forward, making her one a handful of freshmen selected to the first team at that position. Galton joined University of North Carolina-wilmington's Stephanie Rose, Dayton's Colleen Williams and Princeton's Jen Hoy.
She is the first all-region selection for Hofstra since Brittany Buttsin 2010. She is also the first Pride freshman to be named to an all-region squad by the NSCAA since Tiffany Yovino in 2007. Yovino is the only four-time all-region pick in program history.
In helping Hofstra capture the conference championship, Galton was named the Colonial Athletic Association's rookie of the year and all-conference first team selection. As one of the league's top offensive threats in her first collegiate season, the forward/midfielder led the Pride and ranked second in the CAA in goals (11) and points (27).
Eight of her goals came in conference play, including multiple-goal performances against Georgia State, Delaware and Northeastern. Galton, who is the first Hofstra player to receive Rookie of the Year honors since Edel Malone in 2005, also was selected to the All-CAA rookie team and the conference all-tournament Team.
