Big Apple Soccer honors Rutgers’ Filigno
Rutgers junior forward Jonelle Filigno has been named the Big Apple Soccer Women’s College Player of the Year. She also is among the finalists for the Soccer News Net Women’s College Boot, awarded to the national player of the year.

The nominations included athletes playing at colleges within the site’s coverage area, as well as athletes from the area playing collegiately elsewhere in the country.
Filigno, of Mississauga, Ont. (St. Marcellinus Secondary School/Dixie Saints), is the first Scarlet Knight to be named an NSCAA All-American (Second Team) and to the All-Big East First Team since 2009. A three-time Big East Player of the Week, Filigno ranked first in the league in game-winning goals (seven), second in points (35) and goals (15). In the NCAA, the 2012 Olympic Bronze medalist finished third in game winners, ninth in goals and 18th in points. In the Rutgers record book, Filigno tied for first in single season goals, first in game winners and third in points. For her career, the forward currently sits third in game-winning scores (12), fifth in goals (25) and sixth in points (60).
