Rutgers' Woeller earns Big East honors

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women’s center back Shannon Woeller has been named the 2012-13 American Eagle Outfitters Big East Institutional scholar athlete of the year for Rutgers University, it was announced by the league on Thursday.

The exercise science and sports studies major started all 22 games at center back last season season and was named the team’s scholar-athlete for the third consecutive year. The 2011 All-Big East third team selection scored two goals in 2012.

A native of Vancouver, Canada, Woeller is a three-time conference academic all-star and has been on the Dean's List every semester. Woeller also was named to the 2011 National Soccer Coaches Association of America Scholar All-East Region second team. The two-time team captain has excelled at the collegiate and national level. A member of the Canadian National Team, Woeller has earned 16 caps.
