Hall's Beamish tallies late game-winner

Senior Ashley Beamish, who scored in the 89th minute to lift the Seton Hall University women to a 1-0 win over St. John’s University in the first round of the Big East Tournament on Thursday, was named the SoccerSavings/BigAppleSoccer.com women's college player of the week on Monday.

Beamish was honored for the week ending on Sunday, Oct. 30.

The Buffalo, N.Y. native finally broke a scoreless deadlock with only 93 seconds remaining in regulation.

Beamish fired two shots in succession with the second proving to be the game-winner. Her first attempt from 10 yards sailed just over goalkeeper Lauren Ferris and off the crossbar back into play. Beamish came up with the rebound off the deflection and buried the ball into the left corner for her second goal this season.

In a rare double honor to the same school in the same week, Hall freshman midfielder Kai Greene was selected as the SoccerSavings/BigAppleSoccer.com men's college player of the week.
