THAT'S ACADEMIC
NSCAA honors St. John's women 7th time

The St. John’s women’s soccer team has earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award. The award requires teams to have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

With a 3.50 GPA for the 2008-09 academic year, the women’s team earned the academic honor for the seventh consecutive time. The 3.50 GPA is the highest recorded under coach Ian Stone and tied for the 24th best out of the 327 women's teams that were honored ranging from Division I to Division III.

St. John's academic success also ranks among the best in Division I schools listed and is one of the best among the Big East teams named for the honor.

"We are so proud of the team for this academic achievement,” Stone said. “Our student-athletes worked hard to earn the highest GPA of my tenure here at St. John’s. This prestigious honor is a reward for their efforts in the classroom, and I have to thank student development and the University for their tireless work assisting our student athletes.”
