Storm frosh Parker gets the nod

Freshman defender Tim Parker, who scored the winning goal in St. John's 2-1 win over Georgetown in the Big East first round and helped the Red Storm defense to a shutout of No. 23 West Virginia, was named the SoccerSavings.com/BigAppleSoccer.com men's college player of the week on Monday.

He was honored for the week ending on Sunday, Nov. 6.

Parker struck for his first collegiate goal on Wednesday to break a 1-1 deadlock. Jack Bennett took a free kick from the endline and just outside the box. The kick was cleared to the right flank. Bennett, however, quickly regained possession and dribbled back toward the endline before sending a pass right across the mouth of the goal. Parker followed with a one-time blast into the back of the net.

On Sunday, the Red Storm played host West Virginia, 2-0.

The Red Storm will take on Villanova in the Big East semifinals at Red Bull Arena at 7 p.m. on Friday night.
