St. John's men, women honored for classroom work
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's and women's teams were recognized for their academic accomplishments by the National Coaches Soccer Association of America as winners of the organiation's Team Academic Award. It is the fifth consecutive year that both teams were honored.
A total of 726 teams (222 men, 504 women), across all divisions posted the required team grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the 2011-12 academic year. St. John's was one of 152 schools to have both their men's and women's teams recognized, including one of seven Big East schools.
With a 3.39 cumulative team GPA, the St. John's women earned the team academic award for the 10th successive season (2003-12).
The Red Storm men garnered the award for the fifth straight year and the ninth time overall (2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2006, 2004, 2003, 2000). St. John's had the fourth-highest GPA of the seven Big East men's programs that received the honor.
