Fernandes 1st Stony Brook men's player to earn All-America status

Stony Brook senior midfielder Leonardo Fernandes on Friday was named second-team All-America by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Fernandes became the first Stony Brook men's soccer player to receive All-America honors.
He enjoyed an outstanding season that saw him score nine goals and assist on seven others for 25 points. Five of his nine goals were game-winners, and he assisted on game-winning goals three times.
The North Babylon, N.Y. resident was named America East midfielder of the year and first-team All-America East. He was also named to the America East championship all-tournament team while helping the Seawolves reach the semifinals for the fourth consecutive season.
Fernandes wrapped up his Stony Brook career as the program's all-time leader in points with 79. He also is third in goals (31) and third in assists (17), and he ranks first in the program's Division I history in each category.
He also is a three-time America East midfielder of the year. He also was named first-team NSCAA All-Northeast Region in 2011 and third-team NSCAA All-Northeast Region in 2010.
