Santos Laguna to play in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS – Mexico’s Primera Division champion Santos Laguna will take on La Liga Champion Real Madrid in Las Vegas on August 5 as part of the 2012 Herbalife World Football Challenge.

Santos Laguna replaces Juventus in the game after the Italian side cancelled its U.S. tour on Thursday due to its participation in the upcoming 2012 Italian Super Cup in Beijing on August 11.

Replacements for Juventus’ games against DC United at RFK Stadium on July 28, Paris Saint-Germain at Olympic Stadium in Montreal have not been announced yet.

Santos Laguna is the current champion of Mexico’s Primera Division and over the past decade has become one of Mexico’s most successful teams. The Guerreros (Warriors), as they are also known, have won four league championships (1996, 2001, 2008, and 2012) and have played in four of the last five championship finals.

Under the direction of former international player Benjamin Galindo, Santos Laguna is led by captain and goalkeeper Oswaldo Sanchez, Juan Pablo “Chato” Rodriguez, Spanish player Marc Crosas, American striker Herculez Gomez and recently signed Gerardo Lugo.
