WORLD FOOTBALL CHALLENGE
Chelsea, Liverpool 1st teams to compete
Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC, along with MLS teams Seattle Sounders FC and Toronto FC, have confirmed their participation in the 2012 World Football Challenge, CAA Sports and Major League Soccer announced on Tuesday.
Additional teams and matches for the event, which will take place July 18 through Aug. 11, will be announced as details become available.
The series of matches kicks off on Wednesday, July 18 with UEFA Champions League semifinalist Chelsea visiting three-time defending Lamar Hunt/U.S. Open Cup champions Seattle Sounders FC at CenturyLink Field. Chelsea FC also will participate in the MLS all-star game in Philadelphia on Wednesday, July 25.
The competition will head to Toronto, pitting five-time European champion Liverpool FC against MLS’ Toronto FC at Rogers Centre on Saturday, July 21. Tickets go on sale Friday, May 4.
