Seattle's Clint Dempsey is not among the sizeable MLS contingent headed to their national teams for friendlies this week, reportedly after Sounders coach Sigi Schmid asked that he be allowed to rest. Whatever Jurgen Klinsmann thinks about MLS apparently doesn't translate north of the border. Canada has called in 20 players from Major League Soccer teams for the upcoming international fixture date, four more than the United States.

Osvaldo Alonso's first-leg goal gave Seattle Sounders FC the edge they needed to move on after Monday's scoreless draw with FC Dallas at CenturyLink Field. SEATTLE--Seattle Sounders FC squeaked into the Western Conference finals with a scoreless draw against FC Dallas Monday in front of a sellout crowd of 38,912 at CenturyLink Field.
