Dynamo rout shorthanded DC

HOUSTON—DC United goalkeeper Bill Hamid received a straight red card in the 17th minute, and the Houston Dynamo took full advantage, romping to a 4-0 win over their Eastern Conference rivals Sunday night at BBVA Compass Stadium.

Brad Davis opened the scoring with a 19th-minute penalty kick after Hamid was sent off for tackling Dynamo forward Macoumba Kandji in the box, and had the assist on Houston DP Boniek Garcia’s first MLS goal, a close-range header in the 62nd minute.

Boniek Garcia also finished with a goal and an assist, after helping set the table for Will Bruin’s team-leading tenth goal of the season. Brian Ching capped the scoring in the 89th minute, with the Dynamo’s second penalty kick of the match, awarded after Danny Cruz fouled Calen Carr.

Houston put all ten of their shots on goal. Hamid made one save before leaving the match, and backup Joe Willis stopped five more.

The Dynamo (7-8-4) remain fifth in the MLS East with 28 points, while second-place DC fall to 10-6-3 (33).

SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC 2, NEW YORK RED BULLS 2
HARRISON, NJ—Fredy Montero came off the bench to score the equalizer as Seattle Sounders FC played the New York Red Buls to a 2-2 tie Sunday at Red Bulls Arena.

Alvaro Fernandez staked Seattle to a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute, with a volley from just off the left post, but former Sounder Sebastien Le Toux snagged the rebound after netminder Bryan Meredith blocked a shot by Kenny Cooper and scored 24 minutes into his Red Bulls debut to level the score.

New York surged ahead in the 61st minute, when Joel Lindpere put a low shot past Meredith from 20 yards, but that lead also was short-lived. Montero entered the match in the 62nd, and beat Red Bulls goalkeeper Bill Gaudette five minutes later to leave the match tied. Defender Adam Johansson collected his second assist of the match on the play.

The Red Bulls (9-5-5, 32 pts) move past Chicago – at least until the two teams meet Wednesday at Red Bull Arena – and into third place in the MLS East. Seattle remain third in the West at 8-5-7 (31 pts).
