Vancouver Whitecaps FC have clawed their way into third place in the MLS West, but second-place Real Salt Lake will try to halt their progress Friday night at Rio Tinto Stadium. RSL has won three straight at home in July, including a 2-0 win over Rocky Mountain Cup rivals Colorado last Saturday. The win moved RSL GK Nick Rimando into second-place all-time on the MLS career wins and saw FW Alvaro Saborío score his team-leading 11th goal of the season. The Whitecaps are fresh off a 2-1 home win over league-leading San Jose. Newcomers Dane Richards and Barry Robson scored to help the ‘Caps snap a four-game winless streak.
