Ex-Red Bull and Union trialist Kassel scores in 3-0 win over Toronto
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Former Red Bulls midfielder Matt Kassel certainly made an impression while on trial with the Philadelphia Union.
The Bridgewater, N.J. product scored the Union's third goal in the 51st minute in its 3-0 win over Toronto FC in its final group match of the Disney Pro Soccer Classic on Saturday.
Antoine Hoppenot tallied in the eighth minute and Roger Torres scored in the 40th.
Playing as a defender, Kassel scored off a rocket of a shot in the 51st minute. He played the opening 75 minutes.
In Philadelphia's 2-1 win over the Montreal Impact in another Classic game, Kassel came on for Ray Gaddis in the 75th minute.
Kassel, a standout in Red Bulls Academy, was a Home Grown player signed by the Red Bulls before he was released by the Major League Soccer club last year.
