Garber: an announcement due in early February

PHILADELPHIA -- Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber said Thursday that the league would make an announcement about a potential franchise in Miami early next month.

Former English international and LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham is leading a group of investors who are interested in operating a team in Miami, preferably in South Beach.

"The best thing to you guys who are following it closely, within 30 days we're going to make an annnouncmenet on what's gong on in miami," Garber said during a break between the first and second rounds of the MLS SuperDraft at the Philadelphia Convention Center.

"We have been spending a lot of time -- I was down there this past weekend, I'm down there a lot, thankfully quietly from all you guys, working with them, working potential ownership groups, trying to finalize a stadium plan. Right now we've got a lot of work to do. We'll announce something in early February."
