MANHATTAN Beach, Calif. -- Veteran defender Chris Wingert isn't ready to hang up his soccer boots just yet.
The Babylon, N.Y. native Wednesday has re-signed with Real Salt Lake as he will play with the Major League Soccer club for his 10th season.
The 34-year-old Wingert will embark on his 14th MLS season since winning the MAC Hermann Trophy Award at St. John's University in 2003.
“We brought Chris back last season to bring depth to every position on our back line and provide a veteran presence in the locker room. As he showed throughout the year, he is still a capable contributor and bringing him back for the 2017 season is a positive in all aspects,” Real Salt Lake general manager Craig Waibel said in a statement. “He is a positive influence in the locker room and on the field.”
Selected by New York City FC in its expansion draft, Wingert played with the club in 2015 before he was dealt back to RSL prior to last season.
Needless to say, Wingert is looking forward to another season.
"Done deal," he said on twitter. "Excited to be back in claret and cobalt for another year. Looking forward to the 2017 season! @realsaltlake."
