Wildcats roll over Rangers, 12-0

HOLMDEL, N.J. -- The New Jersey Wildcats found its offensive groove in the final home match of their W-League schedule, with eight players scoring goals in a 12-0 victory over the New Jersey Rangers on Thursday night.

Seven-year-old Colts Neck, N.J. native Rachel Ivanicki led the way for the Wildcats, recording a hat-trick and an assist.

The Wildcats (6-2-3, 21 points) outshot the Rangers (1-10-1, three), 35-1.

Forward Andrea Lopez and midfielder Yael Averbuch each added goals. Midfielder Andie Lakin led the Wildcats with three assists, and midfielders Kristen Edmonds and Danae O'Halloran registered two assists.

The Wildcats used four high school players in their starting lineup.

Two goalkeepers combined for the club's first clean slate of the season, with starter Chante Sandiford putting in 70 minutes before Lauren Smedley finished the shutout. Rangers keeper Kayla Murphy made nine saves.

A season-high crowd was on hand to cheer the Wildcats onto victory, and a large group of those supporters joined the team at halftime in an attempt to break the New Jersey state juggling record, which the team unofficially set in 2009 (675). While the number of participants at Saint John Vianney High School on Thursday night may have been just under the previous record, hundreds of excited youth players showcased their juggling skills for those in attendance.

The Wildcats will close out the schedule at the New York Magic at Iona College at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
