June 5, 2010 CHAMPIONSHIP SUNDAY Four CSL finals at Randall's Island
The top soccer players in and around New York City will be competing for top honors on Randalls Island, Sunday.
The Cosmopolitan Soccer League, founded in 1923 by emigrants to the New York City area, will host the finals of four of its divisions on the island's new turf fields and at Icahn Soccer Stadium. Some of the best up and coming young soccer players and past professionals will all compete.
The CSL’s First Division has many current and former professional players while the Metro Division and O-30 First Division count among their ranks former national players and college stars who are professionals and leaders in city finance, advertising, publishing, law, media and fashion.
The schedule:
* First Division Final – N.Y. Pancyprian Freedoms vs. Barnstonworth Rovers, Icahn Stadium Soccer Field, 7 p.m.
* First Division Reserve Final – Lansdowne Boys vs. Central Park Rangers, Icahn Stadium Soccer Field, 5 p.m.
* Metro 1 Division Final – Team Aviator vs. Astoria Lions, Field No. 75 Randalls Island (south end of the island under the RFK Bridge), 5 p.m.
* O-30 First Division Final – Manhattan Kickers O-30 vs. the winner of the semiinal between the Pele Masters and NY Dinamo,, Field No. 74 (south end of the island under the RFK Bridge)
The games at fields 74 and 75 at 5 p.m. are free. There is a $5 admission for the First Division matches at Icahn Stadium.
Beer and soft drinks will be available for purchase at all fields.
