REAL SALT LAKE 3, COLORADO RAPIDS 0
SANDY, Utah—Robbie Findley scored twice, and Yura Movsisyan delivered the final blow as Real Salt Lake shut out the Colorado Rapids 3-0 Saturday in front of 18,675 at Rio Tinto Stadium.

RSL (11-12-7) advances to the MLS playoffs for the second straight year, with 40 points. The Rapids (10-10-10, 40) remain on the bubble, and would drop out of the field if New England defeats Columbus in the last game of the MLS regular season, on Sunday evening.

The Rapids shutout loss also, for all intents and purposes, delivers the MLS Golden Boot award to FC Dallas forward Jeff Cunningham (17 goals). Colorado’s Conor Casey (16 goals) was the only player with a realistic chance of catching Cunningham in the goal-scoring race.

Findley won the game in the 15th minute, chesting Fabian Espindola’s chip cross into the net from just off the far post. Findley struck again in the 33rd, beating defender Corey Gibbs to a long ball from Andy Williams, chipping oncoming ‘keeper Preston Burpo and tapping the ball into the empty net.

Movsisyan capped the win with his eighth goal of the season, getting around defendedr Drew Moor and beating Burpo from 10 yards.

SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC 2, FC DALLAS 1
SEATTLE—Freddie Ljungberg set up both goals as Seattle Sounders FC (12-7-11, 47 pts) rallied past FC Dallas 2-1 Saturday at packed Qwest Field, and into second place in the MLS Western Conference pending the outcome of Sunday’s match between Chivas USA and the Houston Dynamo.

The loss also officially eliminated Dallas (11-13-6, 39 pts) from playoff contention.

Ljungberg sent a ball into the box in the 61st minute, setting the stage for Nate Jaqua’s 1-1 equalizer. Fredy Montero slid onto Ljungberg’s pass and redirected it to Jaqua for the finish, the first home tally for the expansion Sounders in 465 minutes. In the 82nd minute, Brad Evans got free in the box for the game-winning chip over netminder Dario Sala.

FC Dallas led 1-0 at halftime, on a goal by Atiba Harris in the 14th minute.

LA GALAXY 2, SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES 0
CARSON—To the relief of the LA Galaxy and a sellout crowd of 27,000 at the Home Depot Center, the only thing the upset-minded San Jose Earthquakes managed to spoil on Saturday night was Chivas USA’s and the Houston Dynamo’s hopes of finishing first in the MLS West. That honor – and the home field playoff advantage that goes with it – belongs to the Galaxy after a 2-0 win over the Quakes in both teams’ final game of the regular season.

The Galaxy close out the season at 12-6-12. Either Chivas or the Dynamo could match them at 48 points, but would finish below them in the standings in a tiebreaker.

Landon Donovan had the finishing touch for LA on Saturday, creating Bobby Burling’s own goal in the 24th minute and nutmegging goalkeeper Joe Cannon in the 77th to double the Galaxy lead. Spearheaded by MLS Rookie of the Year favorite Omar Gonzalez, the Galaxy defense managed to take San Jose scoring leader Ryan Johnson out of the game for the most part. Ramiro Corrales and Arturo Alvarez gave goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts a few anxious moments, but ultimately left the field empty-handed.

San Jose, long eliminated from the playoff chase, closed out the season at 7-14-9, with 30 points.
