DOUBLING HIS PLEASURE
Berhalter BAS player, goal of week winner

Veteran defender Gregg Berhalter, who scored the first goal of the Los Angeles Galaxy's 2-0 MLS Western Conference final victory over the Houston Dynamo Friday night, received double honors Monday.

He was named winner of the BigAppleSoccer.com player and goal of the week.

Berhalter was honored for the week ending Sunday, Nov. 15.

A native of Tenafly, N.J., Berhalter scored 13 minutes into extratime.

Omar Gonzalez got his head to David Beckham’s free kick from 38 yards, and when Houston defender Eddie Robinson’s clearance was poor, Berhalter, about 12 yards from the goal, knocked the ball home as he was falling to the turf.

The Galaxy will meet Real Salt Lake for the MLS Cup in Seattle Sunday, Nov. 22 at 8:30 p.m. ET.
