SEATTLE -- So much for the pain-killing shots.

Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder David Beckham had not one, not two, but three injections into his injured right foot prior to MLS Cup Sunday night and it didn't help him one iota.

"It wore off afer about 15 minutes," he said after Real Salt Lake prevailed over the Galaxy in penalty kicks, 5-4, after playing to a 1-1 tie.

Beckham was a gracious loser, giving RSL a lot of credit.

"I've been hearing that all week that Salt Lake are not favored," he said. "People talk about them being the underdog coming into this. We drew and lost against them during the regular season. I wouldn't say they were underdogs.

"They are a very good team and we said that before we stepped out for the game. They deserve to be here and they deserve to win tonight."

Beckham said that he will return to the Galaxy "after hopefully the World and that's not going to change."
