Wingert hosts charity event Thursday

Former St. John's standout Chris Wingert, a starter for MLS Cup champion Real Salt Lake, is hosting a party for Athletes for Hope at Redemption in New York City from 6-9 p.m. Thursday.

There is a $10 cover charge. All of the money goes to charity.

Wingert, the 2003 Hermann Trophy winner as the top men's college soccer player, is working with Athletes in hope in a month-long competition to see which professional athlete can raise the most for their charity.

Auction items include:

* Four premium tickets to a Rangers-St. Louis Blues hockey game

* Four premium tickets to an Islanders-Blues hockey game

* Four premium tickets to a Devils- Blues hockey game

* Four tickets to the Knicks-Denver Nuggets game on March 23

* Four tickets to the Red Bulls-RSL game this season
