July 28, 2010 HALFTIME COIN TOSS For Portland, Vancouver for drafts
To determine the first pick in the 2011 expansion draft, SuperDraft, and priority in other player acquisition mechanisms, MLS will conduct a coin toss between the Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps that will air during halftime of the MLS all-star game Wednesday night.
Timbers coach and general manager Gavin Wilkinson and Whitecaps director of professional teams Greg Anderson will join MLS executive vice president Todd Durbin for the coin toss.
On August 11, the winning club must choose first priority in one of the following mechanisms, the teams then alternating choices through the priority list:
1. First pick in the expansion draft
2. First pick in the MLS SuperDraft
3. USL player priority on opening of signing period
