Armas, Nuttall join Massapequa S.C. as director of coaching, technical director

Two well-known local soccer personalities have joined forces at the Massapequa Soccer Club.
The Massapequa Soccer Club appointed Chris Armas as director of coaching and Richard Nuttall as technical director, the club announced on Wednesday.
Armas, a 13-year veteran of Major League Soccer and seven-time all-star, played with the Chicago Fire and Los Angeles Galaxy and eight years with the U.S. National Team. Nuttall has led the Hofstra University men’s soccer program as head coach for 20 years, amassing numerous honors for the program including conference titles from 2004-2006.
They will oversee the club’s player and coach development and supervise the intramural and travel programs, including the special needs program.
“Chris and Richard share a common philosophy of player development and training programs that we believe will strengthen our club from the bottom up,” Massapequa SC president Peter Annarumma said in a statement. “The love they have for the game will be injected into everything we do for our kids, which will create rewarding experiences for players at every level. That’s Massapequa Soccer Club’s difference We are committed to challenge our players at every age and skill level.”
Armas brings 15 years of professional soccer experience to the club including 11 years with the Fire, captaining the team for six years, where he led the team to winning the MLS championship in 1998 and four US Open Cup titles. He also earned 66 caps with the National Team, making two World Cup rosters. Armas played for the Long Island Rough Riders championship team in 1995.
He was named an MLS all-star seven times, MLS Best XI five times, Armas also ranks in the top five on the Fire’s all-time list. He is second in assists (42), second in winning assists (13), second in minutes played, third in games played and second in games started. Armas spent his childhood in Brentwood and he graduated from Adelphi University. He resides on Long Island with his wife and two sons.
Nuttall brings college coaching knowledge and experience to the club. He has been Hofstra men’s coach for the past two decades. He also played professional soccer with Rough Riders, Leeds United and Stoke City of the English Football League.
He has directed Hofstra to three consecutive conference titles from 2004 -2006
and he has piloted the Pride to a 178-159-35 record in 19 seasons. Nuttall resides on Long Island with his wife, two daughters and son.
Armas and Nuttall will offer a series of camps and clinics this summer.
