FC Westchester tie, lose to Gottschee in Development Academy action
PURCHASE, N.Y. -- On the opening day of the 2009-2010 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season, the FC Westchester Under-18 team tied B.W. Gottschee, 1-1, while the U-16 team was defeated by Gottschee, 1-0.
In U.S. Pre-Academy action, the FCW U-14s tied Gottschee, 1-1. The games were played at SUNY Purchase.
In the U-18 match, FCW got a goal from Hiroki Kobayahsi about eight minutes into the second half, but gave up a late goal that resulted in the draw.
In the U-16 match, FCW gave up a first half goal on a set piece, fought back gamely in the second half, but couldn't find a goal to tie the match.
In the U-14 Pre-Academy match, Jeffrey Antoine hit a long-range shot to give FCW a 1-0 lead, but just before half FCW gave up a penalty kick to Gottschee for a 1-1 tie. Both teams had chances in the second half, but couldn't connect.
The FCW U-16s and U-18s next play against Match Fit Academy next Sunday at SUNY Purchase, with the U-16s kicking off at 12:30 p.m. and the U-18s kicking off at 2:30 p.m. The U-14s Sunday travel to Framingham State to take on FC Greater Boston. The U-15 Pre-Academy team will also play FC Greater Boston Sunday at Framingham.
