The Long Island Academy overcame a one-goal second-half deficit to walk out of Competition Field with a 2-2 draw with the Maine Sting on Thursday night. Reserve forward Kevin Davies scored the equalizer in the 73rd minute in the National Premier Soccer League match in the fog on the campus of Adelphi University.

For 67 minutes, it looked like deja vu all over again. The Long Island Academy was dominating play against the New York Athletic Club, just as the team did last year, but could not score. In a 2008 home match, the Academy had to settle for a 0-0 stalemate. But this time the Academy recorded a 3-0 victory.

Leon, Gatti mulling retirement
After the Long Island Academy was eliminated in the National Premier Soccer League semifinals Friday night, goalkeeper Billy Gatti and midfielder and team captain Daniel Leon walked off the Mitchel Athletic Complex turf for the final time this season. They just don't know if it was for the last time in their playing careers.

St. Paul ousts Academy in semis
Thirteen years later, a team from Minnesota exacted some revenge and finally defeated its Long Island counterparts in a national championship playoffs at Mitchel Athletic Complex. The St. Paul Twin Stars prevailed over the Long Island Academy in penalty kicks, 4-2, to reach the National Premier Soccer League championship game Sunday.
