CARSON, Calif. -- If David Beckham is going to the New York Cosmos as a player and a part-owner, then it's news to him.
The LA Galaxy midfielder said on Thursday there was no truth to the report that he will join the Cosmos after he plays his final game for his Major League Soccer club this weekend. The Galaxy will take on the Houston Dynamo in MLS Cup on Saturday.
“I’ve been hearing the Cosmos thing for the last two or three years and no, that’s not true," Beckham said. "My manager has definitely not had a conversation on that side so that’s definitely not true.”
The Sunday World in Ireland reported that Beckham would be joining the Cosmos as a player and part-owner next season.
There has been all sort of speculation of where the 37-year-old Beckham will wind up -- from Australia to China to France. Paris Saint-Germain and most recently AS Monaco have been rumored as his next destination.
“I heard the Monaco thing on the way to training this morning from a friend in London who said ‘I hear you’re going to Monaco,’ " Beckham said. "So that was the first I’ve heard of that. I’m very flattered by some of the interest that I’ve had, and some serious interest that I’ve had.
"I said yesterday that it’s always nice to be recognized by managers and good managers and the fact that I’ve still got managers like Carlo Ancelotti and Harry Redknapp and Sam Allardyce, managers like this are coming out saying they’d love me to play and they know how professional I am that means a lot to me. That’s what I’ve tried to base my career around, my whole career around over the years, being a professional and working hard and it’s nice to be recognized like that.”
