Cosmos add right back, midfielder

NEW YORK - The New York Cosmos' roster is now at seven players after they added Korey Veeder and Dane Murphy to their team on Wednesday.

Veeder, 21, is a right back who comes to the Cosmos most recently having played for the Columbus, Crew where he spent the 2011 and 2012 Major League Soccer seasons. He also played for Crystal Palace Baltimore in the North American Soccer League during the 2010 season, making 19 appearances.

"Korey is a young defender who already has significant professional experience," Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese said in a statement. "Along with the signing of Dane [Murphy], this adds different options and depth to our squad."

A native of St. Peterburg, Fla., Veeder was also a member of U.S. Soccer's residency program in Bradenton, Fla. He made seven appearances for the U.S. Under-20 team and played in the 2011 CONCACAF U-20 Championship.

Murphy, a 26-year-old midfielder, captained the Cosmos U-23 tean that participated in the 2011 Premier Development League. He also represented the Cosmos at Paul Scholes' testimonial match against Manchester United at Old Trafford in August 2011.

Murphy was a four-year starter at the University of Virginia before signing with D.C. United [MLS] in 2008. In 2009, Murphy moved to Germany's VFL Osnabrück for two seasons before returning to his home state of New York.
